Cheyenne Frontier Days 2021

It’s back – after being cancelled last year due to the pandemic, the “Daddy Of ‘Em All” is back for a full 10 day run opening on the 23^rd of July! As in years past, we enjoyed the company of friends at AB Camping, our “go-to” RV park when in southern Wyoming.

We’ll see 4 shows this year starting with Maren Morris & Brett Young on Wednesday, followed by Kane Brown & Restless Road, Thomas Rhett & Rhett Adkins and wrapped up by Blake Sheldon & John King on Saturday.

We also attended 2 days of rodeo, and enjoyed the midway and the Buckin’ A Saloon.

The Montana Loop – Headed Home

From Sheridan it’s a rather long day (for us) to Cheyenne. We’re parked at a familiar park, AB Camping on College Drive on the south side of town. This is where we hang out each July for Frontier Days. We’re here only 1 night, and enjoy the great BBQ café in the park. Thanks Marc & Jane – we’ll see you in a few weeks.

Colorado Rockies Opening Day 2.0

From Cheyenne we’re headed to Denver to catch the Colorado Rockies at Coors Field. Today, July 28^th is designated “Opening Day 2.0” as Coors field eliminated Covid restrictions and for the first time in over a year, allow 100% capacity at the ball park. While it’s busy, all seats are not full – and we enjoy a perfect weather afternoon with the Rockies winning over the Pirates. (We later learned that 32,000 fans enjoyed this game, so the stadium was 64% full)

In Denver we’re parked in site 9 at Chatfield State Park. Again, it’s just a quick overnight and tomorrow we’ll be home. It’s been a great trip. We’ve covered nearly 2000 miles over 20 nights in 11 parks. We’re home for 3 weeks before heading north again to Cheyenne Frontier days. More from Cheyenne!

CFD & Glendo

We’re back to AB Camping in Cheyenne for the 123^rd edition of Cheyenne Frontier Days. As in years past we’re in the rear section in the first 3 sites of the west row. The first two sites work perfect for face-to-face parking so that we can share a common area under our awnings.

We’ll upped the ante this year, with 6 concert performances planned! Lady Antebellum/Kelsea Ballerini & Midland open the festivities on Friday followed by Rascal Flatts/Clint Black on Saturday and Josh Turner/Tanya Tucker on Sunday. Then mid-week is Miranda Lambert/Randy Houser. On Friday we’ll see Keith Urban/Walker Hayes and the final performance is Saturday with Tim McGraw/Devin Dawson.

CFD Concert Nights

Once again, CFD was awesome – we enjoyed all of the concerts and the familiar Buckin’ A Saloon. We also attended the VIP Chuckwagon experience again this year – this time without the downpour and soggy shoes! We’ll be back next year!

After 11 nights in Cheyenne – thanks again Mark & Jane! – we’re headed north to Lake Glendo. It’s been several years since we were at Glendo and it was nice to get back. We managed to capture our favorite cliff-side site in Two Moon campground. We’ll spend 3 nights here and then 2 nights in Denver’s Chatfield State Park before heading home.

Cheyenne Frontier Days, 2018

Welcome to Cheyenne and the 122nd edition of the “Daddy of ‘em All”, Cheyenne Frontier Days. Just as last year, we’re parked at AB Camping for the full 10 day run of CFD. We’ll attend 5 concerts this year, starting with Cole Swindell on Saturday night, followed by The Charlie Daniel’s Band, Eric Church, Toby Keith and Dierks Bentley to wrap things up on the following Saturday. We’re also hoping to see the Air Force Thunderbirds that were rained out last year, attend a Pancake Breakfast, eat some carnival food on the mid-way, drink a cold beer (or two) at the Buckin’ A Saloon and see more of Cheyenne and surrounding areas. We are also looking forward to a VIP Chuckwagon experience where we’ll enjoy an authentic chuckwagon style dinner.

5 Nights of Concerts

On Tuesday we decided to check out Curt Gowdy State Park about 25 miles west of Cheyenne. About 7 different camping areas are set around Granite Springs Reservoir. Many of the entrances and exits into the camping areas are steep and narrow – and not all of the sites will accommodate much more than a tent. Pick your site carefully! Continuing west to I-80, we stopped at Vedauwoo Campground in the Medicine Bow National Forest. 28 sites set among pine trees and rock outcroppings make for some attractive spots. Several non-operational water taps and vault toilets are about all provided in this primitive area. But, it’s close to I-80 and would easily provide a nice overnight spot on the way across southern Wyoming.

After Cheyenne, we’re off to Chatfield for a quick overnight, then back to Walsenburg to drop the trailer off before a flight to London. More after our return from London and a Norwegian Fjords cruise aboard the Azamara Pursuit…

Concerts, Cowboys and Carnival

Cheyenne Frontier Nights

We’re back in Cheyenne for the 121st performance of Cheyenne Frontier Days Rodeo, Frontier Nights and the Carnival Midway. Unlike in the past, attending 1 or 2 concerts and making a long weekend of it, this year we’re all-in – arriving on Friday the 21^st and staying all 10 days of Frontier Days until next Sunday the 30^th. We have tickets to 4 concerts, Little Big Town on Saturday evening, Luke Bryan on Wednesday, Thomas Rhett on Thursday and Jason Aldean to wrap things up next Saturday. With more than a week in Cheyenne we hope to enjoy more of the events that we’ve missed in past years – Rodeo, Pancake Breakfast, Grand Parade, Indian Village, Chuckwagon Cookoff and the USAF Thunderbirds.

And, once again we’re parked at AB Camping, one of our favorite RV Parks. We’re in sites S13 & S14, in the middle row of the southern section. These two sites along with several others provide welcome shade during the warm July afternoons. Last year for the Florida Georgia Line concert we were in sites S10 and S21 for the “Mother-of-all-Hailstorms” – that produced about $10,000 damage to every RV roof in the campground, tore down tree limbs, shattered auto glass and totaled tow vehicles.

After a great 10 (hail-free) days, we’ve already opted to return next year. Thanks Marc and Jane for once again doing a great job of hosting all of these RVs during a VERY busy time. From making sure we had shuttle services when the city cancelled just 3 days before CFD opened, to providing us early morning breakfast burritos and late night BBQ snacks and everything else you do – a very heart felt Thank You!

Oh, our success rate was fairly high. We had dinner on the Midway, attended a Rodeo, saw the Indian Village and Frontier Town, listened to Micheal Martin Murphey at the Sidewinder Saloon and of course checked out the Buckin’A Saloon a few times. The USAF Thunderbirds airshow was cancelled due to weather and we still haven’t had a Pancake Breakfast or watched the Grand Parade or tasted at the Chuckwagon Cookoff. More for next year!
