We’re back in Trinidad and the start of the 2015 Texas Road Trip. With snow and cold conditions forecast for foothills areas around Denver overnight, we hit the road about 3PM yesterday and were set-up and de-winterized in site #2 at Trinidad Lake State Park by 7PM. We’re partial to site #6, but it currently has a non-operational water faucet. With antifreeze to clear out of the water system, we prefer full hookups. And, surprisingly, all other full hookup sites are occupied.
Site #2 works just fine, it’s not nearly as private as #6 and the slope requires unhitching to level. All of the internal campground roadways have recently been repaved, the guest services building with its gleaming red roof is spotless and everything except the water faucet at site #6 looks in good repair. There appears to be newly paved and improved campsites on the currently closed lower loop. Sites #46-#50 are very private, some with good lake views and might be worth a visit later in the season.
Cellular service at Trinidad has improved dramatically over the years that we’ve been coming here. There is full 4G AT&T service along with very fast Verizon broadband. There are also a few over-the-air TV channels out of Colorado Springs. With rain in the forecast for overnight we’re pleased to awaken to cloudy but dry conditions. With an increasing chance of rain throughout the afternoon, we pay our $24 and pack it up hoping to stay ahead of the wet weather.
