Welcome to a beautiful fall day in Santa Fe, New Mexico!
Wow, how summer has flown by!

But, to rewind a bit… Our July trip to Boyd Lake State Park and Cheyenne Frontier Days didn’t go quite as planned. Instead of visiting friends & family and enjoying concerts, a respiratory infection kept me from attending many of our favorite events. However, after a short regiment of very strong antibiotics, the infection was on its way out and things were much better.

In early August, we began nearly weekly trips to Lake Pueblo State Park in Pueblo, CO. After having robot-assisted total knee replacement surgery on August 4^th, weekly physical therapy meant that staying at the lake was much easier than a 2.5 hour round trip for a 45 minute therapy session 3 times per week. In total, we spent 8 weeks and about 30 nights at Lake Pueblo. Warm temperatures, beautiful sunsets and a view over the lake – not a bad place to recuperate!

This weekend we’re in Santa Fe, enjoying the beautiful foliage and fall weather in New Mexico. Our favorite RV park here is Santa Fe Skies. It’s busy in the park with some guests opting for a few more nights in New Mexico after the closing of the Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta last weekend.

From here we’re headed home where we’ll winterize and get the trailer ready to deliver to Lazydays RV in Longmont for some warranty work. We’ll be home for the holidays and then anxiously awaiting our departure to Arizona in mid-January. More from Arizona in 2026!

July 4th at Lake Pueblo

Happy Independence Day! We’re parked at sites #9 and #10 at Arkansas Point campground near the South Marina at Lake Pueblo. Site #9 is a back-in site with great views over the lake to the north and the cliffs and hiking trails to the south. It’s also very private since neighboring site #7 is blocked as an overflow site. Site #10 is a pull-through site across the street and also shares the gorgeous views across the lake.

Arriving on Friday, we’ll spend 5 nights here since the 4th falls on a Tuesday. With temperatures approaching 100, we’ll plan on spending days on the beach and evenings around the campfire. On Sunday we’ve rented a pontoon boat (thank Shawn!) and will get to play on the water just as we used to with the ski boat. Pueblo was always one of our favorite boating lakes, plenty of open water for skiing and nice quiet coves for hanging out and enjoying the water.

Friday afternoon we take the short trip down to Walsenburg to meet a realtor from La Veta, CO and look at 5 parcels of land in the Navajo Ranch area. Newly on the radar, this small southern Colorado town may become our next home!

After viewing awesome firework displays all around the lake on Tuesday evening, on Wednesday we’ll pack up and make the trip back to the Denver area. It’ll be a short overnight at home, on Thursday we’ll jump on a flight bound for Quito, Ecuador for a 10-night Galapagos Islands cruise-tour. After returning from the Galapagos, we’re home for 4 days before heading to Cheyenne Frontier Days. More from Cheyenne…

We’ve just spent 4 nights at Lake Pueblo parked in site #48 of Arkansas Point, the southern side campground. After a mid-80’s day on Friday, the temperatures quickly slipped into the high 60’s for the remainder of the weekend. By Sunday the forecast at home is for freezing temperatures overnight and into Monday. Not wanting to re-winterize, and with an appointment for some warranty work on the RV on Tuesday, we opt to spend Sunday and Monday night in Pueblo. While sites around #48 offer great lake views, they also suffer from some road noise. Next time we’d like to check out sites a bit further up the hill around 57, 59 or 60. There are also some nice sites on the west side, around 11 through 5. PARK MAP

Boats, Bands and BBQ, Pueblo

This weekend we’re attending the Boats, Bands and BBQ festival along the Arkansas Riverwalk in downtown Pueblo. We’re parked at Lake Pueblo, in the Arkansas Point Campground near the South Marina. Sites #48 and #50 are large sites offering electric services and great views across to the lake and dam.

This is one of the first times we’re not camping on the northern shore, and provides a unique view of the lake and easy access to downtown Pueblo. The Riverwalk area is quite a surprise, Pueblo has made amazing progress in this area with inviting restaurants, pubs and green belt areas along the original course of the Arkansas. In 1920, the river was diverted out of town due to devastating floods that destroyed much of Pueblo. The Historic Arkansas Riverwalk of Pueblo (HARP) returns the river to the original course, along with modern flood controls. The relatively new development has renewed the formerly derelict and disrespected areas of old-town.

The BBQ is good, the bands are never-ending and we have a great afternoon in downtown Pueblo.
