Attempting to avoid Albuquerque and the I-25 corridor through central New Mexico, we’ve detoured west into Arizona and are about 50 miles south of I-40 in the small town of Saint Johns, AZ. After leaving Navajo Lake, we head south through Shiprock, Farmington and Gallup, New Mexico. In Farmington we took a short detour to complete TSA Pre Check formalities. We decided to apply for Pre Check after waiting in very long TSA lines in Orlando’s airport a few weeks ago. The final step to the application process is a personal interview. These interviews are scheduled 60 to 90 days out in Denver. We’re pleased that we’re able to accomplish a walk-in interview in Farmington in about 20 minutes.
Moon Meadows is set in a large grove of trees which still have no leaves. The park provides basic services with full hookups. There is no cable TV available and no over-the-air that we can find. However, there is excellent 4G T-Mobile service here. Experimenting with this very fast service, we streamed an episode of Downton Abby in full HD, requiring about 800MB. We’ll overnight at Moon Meadows and leave early for the 3 or 4 hour drive over to Silver City, New Mexico. More from there tomorrow…
