Happy Easter and the celebration of Semana Santa, “Holy Week” in far south Texas. Semana Santa is Mexico’s second most important holiday season of the year, behind only Christmas, and runs from Palm Sunday to Easter Sunday. In addition to attending Mass on Good Friday and Easter Sunday, many Mexicans will also take advantage of the holiday to go on vacation. And, in this part of Texas and northern Mexico they come to South Padre Island. The beach festivities kicked off on Good Friday and culminated on Easter Sunday. During this time the causeway bridge onto the island was packed, many new RV’ers stayed at the park and the beach was nearly shoulder to shoulder in some places.
We’ve extended our stay for 3 more days and will head back to Harlingen on Thursday where we’ll start planning for our return trip to Colorado.
