After exploring the park by foot and bike, it’s easy to understand why this huge park of nearly 600 sites is considered the crown jewel of the Cameron County system. Almost surrounded by water on 3 sides, the park incorporates walking/biking trails, an activities center, a boat launch, over a mile of beach with 2 snack pavilions and a long fishing jetty.

Most of the sites are simple back-in or pull-through sites with water, electric, sewer and cable TV connections. The largest section, in the SW corner is long rows of pull-through sites. At the far south end on each row there are 6 or 8 sites that are designed to be “door-to-door” sites so that two RV can be parked to share a common area of two picnic tables and sometimes a small patio. The premium sites are “S” sites, in the far SE corner of the park. Most of these sites have great views overlooking the ship channel and the jetty – sites S18 & 19 would be best, with other great sites next to, or across the street from these. Unlike the rest of the park, there is no fence along the “S” row, allowing better views from patio areas. There are also a number of group sites (2, 3, 4 or 5 units) through the central section of the park which could have good views (C131, D20, D21, C119 would be best). There are also good water views from sites along the fence, C406-C399).
